 Carla Berrocal

Carla Berrocal (1983) studied illustration and graphic design in Madrid. She wrote comics reviews in La Guía del Cómic, and collaborated on in the radio program of the Círculo de Bellas Artes. In 2004, she published her first comic and started her professional career as an illustrator. Since 2017 she has collaborated in the newspaper of the Madrid City Council "M21 Magazine" making comics with a marked journalistic and investigative style. In 2019 she obtained a scholarship from the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome to develop a comic project inspired by the life of Concha Piquer, and published Reservoir Books in 2021. In 2024 she published her work “La Tierra Yerma”, a feminist epic with fantastic touches set in Salamanca. As an activist, she chaired the Madrid Association of Illustrators (APIM) (2016-2020) and in 2013 she promoted, with other authors, the Collective of Comic Authors, a group that seeks gender equality in the world of comics. She currently continues working in her studio, teaches workshops on comics and graphic novels in various institutions and collaborates in the SER radio cartoonists' discussion group: "A Vivir queue son dos días".
